CBU stakeholder

Hey guys, below is an example of direct and indirect stakeholders. Have a look and let me know what you think k.

Here are some examples of project stakeholders that might be included in your projects.

• Creators: as the creator of the project, you are the first stakeholder!
• Team: this can include managers, employees, interns, volunteers and partners and advisors.
• Funders or Sponsors: the individuals, foundations, companies and organizations who provide financing. Some projects will have a single source of funds, while others will have many different funding sources.
• Community members: those who will be benefiting directly from your project.
• Partners: may include groups or individuals who act as allies in achieving the project's goals.
• Indirect Stakeholders: the individuals or organizations whose interests are affected by the project, but who will not typically have any direct contact with the project. For example, a project which seeks to improve air quality in a given city will indirectly benefit all its inhabitants, although not everyone will have direct contact with the project.

College orientation tomorrow

Ok, this will be my last post for the next 1 week I think. Don't know if I'll have the time to blog during orientation, though I will try.

To tell ya the truth, I'm scared out of my mind. Really, really scared. I've been putting off going to college for such a long time for 2 reasons:

1) I dread going to college. I dont know what to expect. Will I fit in? I dont know. I guess I just don't want to leave my comfort zone.

2) After months of not touching a book, I don't know how my brain will react. Will I be able to cope?

Over the past few months I've gotten numerous offers from private colleges. But I turned them all down. Why? I just wasn't ready. Even now going to KLIUC i'm scared but I decided that its been too long. I can't wait any longer. And my brain isn't getting any better either.

Everyone around was like " Ur afraid to stay far away". So not true. U can send me to Africa and I wouldn't mind. Its the lifestyle alteration that I'm afraid of. I mean, I'm finally gonna be truly independant, whatever that means.

So tomorrow I go, into a realm of the unknown. the uncertain. I can only pray that it would be how I imagined it to be. I don't know why I'm afraid. I mean, I survived school didn't I? With the most awesome friends, and good grades and active co-co...so I don't need 2 be afraid right?

Oh well, I just hope for the best. I can't put my mother through hell again with my fickle mindedness. Wish me luck! :)

How different are we?

This morning, wahida, adila, dina and me went to alamanda to watch night at the museum 2 , which was HILLARIOUS btw. Then after we decided to just chill at the p9 food court and just chat on what has happened to all of us after SPM and some other stuff too. God knows what we were talking about, we came to the topic of how people(teenagers to be more specific) are so different in every country. I've talked with people my age from so many other countries before, USA,phillipines, thailand,NZ,australia,blablabla....and we all have different ways of doing things. Is it our culture? Maybe, I don't know. But I mean some things we do as so ridiculous its unfair we blame it on culture. Like here, whenever anyone adopts a sort of westernized habit, we label it as "budaya kuning". Why? Are we really adopting a "culture"? or are we just evolving and forming one of our own? I mean once we make something a habit, doesn't it become our culture? So why do we blame other people saying that we are just merely adopting their bad habits?

Ok, back to the main point. Something really disturbed me the other day when I was chatting with a friend from a different country. I asked "over there what do ppl do for fun?" ..answer: sex. Ok, so not really shocking, I've heard it before from other people too. But if that answer were to have come out of the mouth of a malaysian, it would be totally and utterly unacceptable, right? I say malaysian coz I dare not speak for Asians in general. I might sound stupid when I say this...but I just don't understand. How is it that we who are all of the same age, just divided by mere costal borders have such different values? Why aren't we all brought up in the same way? ok, maybe not the same way, but atleast with similar values. How is it that after decades of modernization, what is now deemed "the norm" in other countries is still taboo in ours and maybe a few others? Why did they allow such things to be their "culture"?

I admit, Malaysians are not angels. Some, maybe even more have done things that is considered wrong by our standards. But its not westernization. Its us. I would use the word evolving, but that would be wrong too. Coz I do not consider engaging in such activities as evolving. But the point is we have no one to blame but ourselves. I'm in the process of understanding why we are all so different. Why is it that we have such opposing values? And if 2 people from these opposing cultures were 2 come together, which one would have to compromise their values?

If you have the answer, please let me know.

did I miss anyone? Hope not.

These group of students are like no one else I've ever met. They're ambitious, smart and are eager to make a difference in the world. I'm so happy I met em' all. If any of you ever read this, I want u 2 know how grateful I am to have met u and I think u r all fantastic people and aspiring young leaders of the world. Hopefully one day we'll be as great as Mike! :p

Then there were the 3 really brilliant and funny mentors: Shaun, Bernise and Cherrie. They were great in assisting us on our projects and are just really great people personally. Shaun is really funny, Cherrie is witty, and Bernise has the sweetest smile. Thanks guys for all your help and entertainment. Really enjoyed the whole thing. U guys are awesome people! Hopefully we'll meet again someday.

To top it all were the 2 driving forces behind it all: Michael Furdyk and Katherine Walraven. The very fact that I was standing in the same room as them was mind blowing, but to be able to talk to them as friends is something I'll treasure for the rest of my life. They were the reason I was there and I'll forever be grateful. I really am thankful to have met the both of you, and I want u to know what a wonderful job I think you're doing. The forum wouldn't have been as great if it wasn't for the two of you. I hope I'll get to meet u again.

I really do miss everyone. And I'll admit that I even shed a tear or two on the way home knowing that everything was over. But it doesn't end there does it? I know we will all continue to be friends no matter what.

As for the forum itself, It was an eye opening experience. To know that so much is being done to change the face of education is like a breath of fresh air. I was really surprised to see what the innovative teachers of Malaysia had done, it gives me hope that one day our education system would be different. The students forum showed me that though all of us were from different countries and spoke in different languages, we all had a common goal when it came to education. We all wanted change. This is something that goes beyond the borders and barriers of language and nationality. We all were able to work together on subjects we were passionate about. But the most important one to me would be the value of an IDEA. Who would have thought that an idea cultivated by a group of students in a day could be developed to such great heights? Being funded by microsft would be a dream come true for many people, but it is a dream that has become our reality. I learnt that no idea is worth nothing, for even the smallest of ideas, if paired with a great mind can become a big one.

As for my teammates- Kam,Iman,Kong Soon and Vaspol, you guys rock! I wouldn't trade our group for anything and I really do think that our project is capable of greater heights. Our nationality is different, but our passion is the same. Project "Children Behind Us" will definitely be a success. U guys were wonderful throughout the whole ordeal-with us staying up till the wee hours of the morning just to finsh the project. We make a great team, don't we?

I'll blog more about project "Children Behind Us" when we have all the details finalized. I'll let u know how u can be part of our project.

Till next time.

Cheers, Shobana

P/S: I'll be starting college soon, wish me luck! :)

ICT

So hey, I'm doing this project for a conference that will be held in KL at the end of may. I have a few questions that I would like your feedback on.

How often do you use ICT in the classroom? ( school and uni students)

Do you think that is enough? If so, why?

What sort of technology would you like to be introduced in the classroom?

How much of your homework uses ICT?

Would you help your teacher who is having problems using ICT?

Lastly, please leave your own comments on the use of ICT in the classroom. Your own views and thoughts. Thank you.!

U-turn

Well, as you can see I've had this blog for quite some time now. I realized how ridiculous my previous post were( I wrote em' when I was 14?). So I've deleted all my previous post and you can expect some newer post on current happenings.

My blog will be about my life and things that happen around me. It's a personal blog so I don't really mind if anyone reads it or not. If you read something you like, do leave a comment. If not, you may do as you like .
