How different are we?

This morning, wahida, adila, dina and me went to alamanda to watch night at the museum 2 , which was HILLARIOUS btw. Then after we decided to just chill at the p9 food court and just chat on what has happened to all of us after SPM and some other stuff too. God knows what we were talking about, we came to the topic of how people(teenagers to be more specific) are so different in every country. I've talked with people my age from so many other countries before, USA,phillipines, thailand,NZ,australia,blablabla....and we all have different ways of doing things. Is it our culture? Maybe, I don't know. But I mean some things we do as so ridiculous its unfair we blame it on culture. Like here, whenever anyone adopts a sort of westernized habit, we label it as "budaya kuning". Why? Are we really adopting a "culture"? or are we just evolving and forming one of our own? I mean once we make something a habit, doesn't it become our culture? So why do we blame other people saying that we are just merely adopting their bad habits?

Ok, back to the main point. Something really disturbed me the other day when I was chatting with a friend from a different country. I asked "over there what do ppl do for fun?" ..answer: sex. Ok, so not really shocking, I've heard it before from other people too. But if that answer were to have come out of the mouth of a malaysian, it would be totally and utterly unacceptable, right? I say malaysian coz I dare not speak for Asians in general. I might sound stupid when I say this...but I just don't understand. How is it that we who are all of the same age, just divided by mere costal borders have such different values? Why aren't we all brought up in the same way? ok, maybe not the same way, but atleast with similar values. How is it that after decades of modernization, what is now deemed "the norm" in other countries is still taboo in ours and maybe a few others? Why did they allow such things to be their "culture"?

I admit, Malaysians are not angels. Some, maybe even more have done things that is considered wrong by our standards. But its not westernization. Its us. I would use the word evolving, but that would be wrong too. Coz I do not consider engaging in such activities as evolving. But the point is we have no one to blame but ourselves. I'm in the process of understanding why we are all so different. Why is it that we have such opposing values? And if 2 people from these opposing cultures were 2 come together, which one would have to compromise their values?

If you have the answer, please let me know.

1) night at the museum 2 mmg hilarious. the kahmunrah was so cute. lol

2) hmm. at first i typed something sooo long tau. haha. Then kena delete cz i fear that it would offend some people -.-

anyway, i learned something about this in psychology. and different cultures do have different views on what is right and what is not.
for example, my lecturer said, people there don't call their friend's parents "uncle" or "auntie", they just call them by names.
but here, if you were to do that, ehem, a bit rude i guess?
a little example, but it explains how different people around the world are from each other.

don't know who started the ways of living in all those cultures, but they do have different views, of course.
about why and how they got their views, i also don't know. haha.

but i do agree that if you do bad stuffs, it's because of you.
yes, media will affect you, will "allure" you to do those things, but you can choose not to do so.
and in the end, it is always you to blame and no one else.

haha, tah apa aku merepek, but nvmd. lol.
sorry if this offends anybody in any way.
